Lately, Joey has had a lot of questions, comments, and concerns about his own transformation from a boy into a young adult. Before we even arrived at school this morning, Joey expressed to me that he wanted to write a story, and the subject matter was to address how “becoming a man is tough”. I thought that was a great idea, and reminded Joey how writing about things that we struggle with can often be very therapeutic, and cathartic. I asked Joey to hold onto his thoughts until we arrived at school and had the chance to pursue this fully.
RPM 6/4/12 – Creative Writing on the Pains of Growing Up
Once we arrived at school, and entered the office in which we do our one-on-one RPM sessions, here is what ensued…
UP TO MY NECK IN TRIBULATIONS OF MATURATION
BECOMING A MAN IS TOUGH
PLEASE BARE WITH ME THROUGH THIS INCREDIBLY LONG AND TRYING BUT ALSO MAGNIFICENT TRANSITION
SOMETIMES I WILL NEED THE INDEPENDENT HISTORY OF MEN IN MY LIFE TO REALLY HELP MODEL THE WAY FOR ME TO IMITATE
MOST AVERAGE I’M GOING TO TRY TO BE
I’M NOT SURE I’M NOT EYE-OPENINGLY EXCEPTIONAL, BUT SOMETIMES TRYING TO BE THAT WAY IS TOO MUCH TO HANDLE
MOST PEOPLE DON’T UNDERSTAND HOW MUCH OF A BURDEN I HAVE TO CARRY IN THIS WONDERFUL WORLD
LIKING GIRLS BUT NOT BEING ABLE TO TELL THEM REALLY SWEET THINGS IS CHALLENGING
HARVESTING THE MOST OUT OF LIFE IS IMPORTANT EVEN WHEN THE ODDS ARE STACKED AGAINST YOU
YOU KNOW THAT I’M NOT SURRENDERING ANYTIME SOON, WON’T YOU MAN-UP TOO?
