The exercise was to write a “scary Halloween” story, and its difficulty levels varied based on a student’s current capabilities.
Here it the lead that was provided for Joey:
“S-C-R-E-E-C-H! There was that eerie noise again. I had to see what it was. I just opened the door and gasped!”
Here is where Joey took the story:
SUDDENLY THE SIGHT OF A “NORMAL” PERSON STOPPED ME DEAD IN MY TRACKS!
YOU KNOW, TO US MONSTERS, “NORMAL” PEOPLE ARE ARE JUST SO SCARY SOMETIMES!
WE BOTH ALMOST SCARED ONE ANOTHER TO DEATH!
YOU KNOW THIS THIME THEY WERE BOTH ABLE TO RECOGNIZE THE FEAR IN EACH OTHERS’ EYES BECAUSE THEY LOOKED DIFFERENT.
THEY WERE BOTH ABLE TO SEE THERE WAS NOTHING TO FEAR IN EACH OTHERS’ SUPERFICIAL DIFFERENCES.
AGE AND BEAUTY FAIL, BUT MAKING THE MOST OF ONE’S MIND IS WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT.
REALLY THESE TWO BEINGS WERE ABLE TO PUT ASIDE THEIR INITIAL FEARS OF THE UNKNOWN…
THEY WERE EVEN ABLE TO BUILD TRUST AND ONE DAY GOT MARRIED!
WON’T WE ALL LOOK BEYOND EACH OTHER’S OUTSIDES WHEN MEETING NEW FRIENDS?
